THRANGU TARA ABBEY RETREAT CENTER
SHER MONASTERY, MANANG, NEPAL

In May 2013, eight Tara Abbey nuns went into retreat including, Gen Sherab Wangchuk, the head teacher in the monastic college.Their retreat center in Manang is near the border of Tibet and is near the very famous Milarepa cave.In July the buckwheat fields are flowering with pink blossoms. Buckwheat is a main ingredient in the local diet. The people in Manang (in Tibetan-Neshen) are devoted Buddhists with a history of Kagyu monasteries dating back to the time of the Tenth Karmapa. They are known among themselves as "Neshenpa". Many of Thrangu Rinpoche's monks and nuns and students at Shree Mangal Dvip are from Manang.
