The Time of Death

What is helpful at the time of death is to have the kind of confidence that is produced by a recognition of the way things work.  For example, you could say to yourself, “Well, I am not alone; I am not the only being who is going to die.  Everyone dies.  Of course, if I were the only person who was going to die, that would be depressing.  But this is a normal thing and there is no reason why I should be particularly depressed or feel particularly afflicted by it.”  If you understand the context in which your death will occur, then you can find the strength and stability of mind to deal with it and to actually have some freedom of mind at the time of death.
