Thrangu Monastery representing Canada in Lumbini, Nepal,
the Birthplace of the Buddha

Construction of the monastery that represents Canada in the monastic zone of the Sacred Garden, Lumbini is ongoing. The monastery is sponsored by the Thrangu Vajra Vidhya Buddhist Association, Thrangu Monastery Canada.

Lumbini, the birthplace of the Buddha is visited by Buddhist pilgrims from the world over. The site is a very large one covering many miles and is administered by the Lumbini Development trust.

There are monasteries, temples, pagodas and stupas representing many countries in the beautiful and peaceful setting. Monasteries and stupas dating back to the time of the Buddha have been and are still being discovered through archaelogical digs. Currently Unesco is funding a dig which recently discovered three temples and villages from the pre-Ashokan era.
