24th Annual Rain Retreat (Yarnay) Begins at Thrangu Tashi Yangtse Monastery

July 30, 2026: Following the virtuous tradition of the 45-year annual summer rain retreat established by our incomparable teacher, Shakyamuni Buddha, the sangha—led by the khenpos, masters, and teachers of Thrangu Tashi Yangtse Monastery at the sacred pilgrimage site of Namo Buddha (Takmo Lujin)—gathers to uphold and preserve the pure, stainless ritual tradition of the Three Foundations of the Vinaya, strictly maintain the novice vows, and fulfill the special purpose and spiritual benefits of Sojong (purification) and the Rain Retreat.

This morning, over two hundred novice and fully ordained monks properly took their formal vows for the 24th annual Summer Rain Retreat (Yarnay) and commenced the retreat, as captured in these photographs.
